Desmond Eagle Plume-O&M Assistant Coordinator
KBE is pleased to spotlight Desmond Eagle Plume, Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Assistant Coordinator. Mr. Eagle Plume has dedicated himself to serving Kainai Board of Education’s Pookaksi (Children/Students) since 2011.
On, June 26, 2013, Desmond signed his first full-time contract with KBE O&M, assigned to Kainai High School (KHS). Prior to that, he served as a casual O&M employee supporting multiple schools, including Tatsikiisaapo’p Middle School (TMS), Saipoyi Community School (SCS), Kainai Alternate Academy (KAA), and Issoitapi Elementary School (IES). In 2022, he became the O&M Supervisor at KHS, where he continued to build a legacy of excellence across all KBE schools.
Over the past 14 years, Desmond has made a lasting impact on KBE’s facilities and infrastructures, consistently setting a high standard while fostering strong and positive relationships with both staff and students.
On June 16th, 2025, Desmond officially began his new role at the KBE District Office. Reflecting on his transition, he shared: “I look forward to my new role at KBE and the challenges it will bring. The challenge is not being focused on one particular school, but the while KBE district, that’s what I look forward to. I look forward to meeting new staff, working in a new building and developing a new routine.”
A Special Message to KHS Students and KHS Alumni!
Mr. Eagle Plume states “Oki Des!” was always appreciated when the students addressed him! “Over the years working at KHS I became friends with many students, mainly from supervising their work experience courses. Seeing the KHS students graduate and go on to be successful in life brings happiness to me.” He goes on to stress the importance that “KBE has some great kids attending KHS and the Blood Tribe has a bright future!”
To the KHS staff, he shared:
“it was a pleasure and honour to work with you for 11months and 13 days! You’re my friends forever!” Desmond honours the staff by saying “I’m so grateful to work with the staff at KHS, it was just a joy working with the staff there, they made work fun! KHS had its ups and downs but it’s obvious I loved it there, if it wasn’t for my new role at KBE, I’d still choose to be at KHS.”
Desmond is proud to be from the Issoitapi Community! He and his wife of 14 years, Chelsea Day Rider, have four boys: Landon, Hunter, Cashis, and Eli. In addition to his career, Desmond is a passionate athlete and youth mentor. He plays fastball with Tribe and slo-pitch with Sluggers, both teams proudly representing Kainai.
He is also a devoted advocate for youth athletics. Over the past two years, he volunteered as one of the coaches for Kainai Minor Hockey’s U11 team. In 2024, he and the coaching team helped lead the Blackfoot Confederacy team to a historic victory at the Oskana Cup in Saskatchewan, reportedly “the first time a Blackfoot team won the championship”.
Lastly, it must be noted – Desmond is a proud and passionate Calgary Flames fan!
As KBE’s Communications Officer, I’m pleased to spotlight Desmond Eagle Plume as the newest addition to our District Office team—following my own arrival as the most recent hire in February 2024. ~Christine Piikitstakiakii Goodstriker, BMgt
